OCU tops Langston 8-1

Game 2 of series moves to 7 p.m. Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University walloped Langston 8-1 on Tuesday night at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Mallory McCoy turned in a 3-for-3 night for OCU. The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA softball, went to 26-3, 19-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lightning in the area shortened the game with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Oklahoma City will finish its two-game set against Langston at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars plated four runs to build a 6-1 advantage in the fourth inning. McCoy smacked an RBI double to left field, and Kennedy Jackson drove in two runs with a single through the middle of the infield.
Nicole Robinson knocked in two runs with a base hit in the second.
In the fifth, McCoy hammered a base hit off the wall in left to bring Brooklyn Mason home from third base.
Jaden Shores tacked on an RBI single in the sixth before weather intervened.
McCoy, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., had two RBIs, stole a base and scored twice, while Kaitlyn Jones, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Mason, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla., put together a 2-for-3 evening with three runs scored and a stolen base. Robinson, a senior from Rochester, Ill., posted a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and scored a run.

Christie Betker struck out four in six innings. Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., remained perfect on the season with a 14-0 record.
