Stars roll to sweep of Panhandle State

OCU pulls off series sweep in league play for second consecutive week

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University finished off the weekend sweep of Panhandle State with 3-0 and 7-1 wins Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars hit four home runs during the twin bill. OCU moved to 23-12, 13-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference baseball.
Noah Barks sparked the Stars by smacking a solo homer for OCU's first run of the day. Cade Stephens and Evan Maun tacked on run-scoring singles in the sixth to extend the Stars' advantage.
Tanner Schoeninger teamed with Tyler Polk to blank Panhandle State. Schoeninger, a senior right-hander from Fort Collins, Colo., kept the Aggies off the board for six innings. Schoeninger (4-2) fanned five and allowed three hits and a walk. Polk, a redshirt freshman from Duncan, Okla., earned his fourth save of the year by pitching a scoreless seventh.
Barks, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run knocked in, and Dalton Reed put together a 2-for-3 performance.
In the second game, Stephens crushed a two-run blast beyond the right-field wall in the second. Bryson Lierle increased the OCU margin by belting a two-run homer to right-center field in the third.
OCU responded to Panhandle's run in the top of the inning when Cross Factor hammered a three-run homer to right in the fourth.
Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., turned in a 3-for-4 outing, and Barks was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Peyton Crispin went 2-for-3.
Connor Ferguson collected the win. Ferguson, a sophomore from Boise, Idaho, notched eight strikeouts in five innings. Ferguson (3-0) limited Panhandle State to three hits. Chris Bennefield, Grant Harrison and Lierle combined to keep the Aggies without a run the last two innings.
The Stars face Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader April 16 in Plainview, Texas.
