OCU routs Wayland Baptist 12-3, 12-3

Stars pile up 38 hits Saturday

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University pounded Wayland Baptist (Texas) 12-3 and 12-3 on Saturday at Wilder Field.
The Stars hit nine home runs in the doubleheader. Oklahoma City improved to 25-12, 15-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference baseball.
In the first game, OCU plated six runs in the fifth inning. Fredric Walter crushed a two-out three-run homer over the center-field wall followed by Peyton Crispin's solo blast over right-center field. The Stars pushed their lead to 10-2 as Gunner Halter nailed a two-run shot to left.
John Anthon smacked a solo shot beyond the right-field wall to give Oklahoma City a 2-0 lead in the third. Crispin closed out OCU's scoring for the game by belting an RBI double along the right-field foul line in the sixth.
Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., turned in a 3-for-5 performance with two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs, and Walter, a senior from Montigny, France, drove in four runs while going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Dalton Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Bryson Lierle, a senior from Altus, Okla., had a 2-for-3 outing with two runs scored and a run driven in. Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Jake Patterson picked up his third complete game of the season. Patterson, a senior left-hander from Ardmore, Okla., struck out nine in seven innings. Patterson (8-1) struck out the side in the first inning.
In the second game, the Stars hit back-to-back-to-back homers as part of a six-run seventh. Cross Factor launched a two-run homer over the right-field wall. Reed and Lierle hammered consecutive solo homers.
In the first inning, Halter nailed a solo shot to left-center. OCU went up 3-0 as Reed hit a two-run homer to left in the first.
In the fifth, Halter swatted an RBI double, and Noah Barks added a run-scoring single.
Lierle supplied OCU a 4-for-5 showing with two runs scored and an RBI, while Reed went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Halter was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Barks, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Tanner Schoeninger notched the victory, moving to 5-2 on the year. Schoeninger, a senior right-hander from Fort Collins, Colo., fanned five in 5.1 innings. Tyler Polk earned his fifth save by working the final 1.2 innings.
Oklahoma City completes its series at Wayland Baptist at 1 p.m. Sunday in Plainview, Texas.
