OCU blisters Texas Wesleyan 8-0

Stars meet John Brown at 6 p.m. Monday in SAC Tournament semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University overwhelmed Texas Wesleyan 8-0 on Thursday night at Brian Harvey Field in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer quarterfinals.
Sofia Carvajal Granados powered the Stars by piling up a season-best four goals. Oklahoma City (9-3) squares off with John Brown (Ark.), ranked 12th in the NAIA, at 6 p.m. Monday in the SAC Tournament semifinals in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Oklahoma City matched its season-high goal total against Bacone on March 14. The Stars built a 25-6 advantage in shots.
"The girls showed some real confidence," OCU coach Billy Martin said. "Coach Nathan Doll and I have been working all week on taking more shots and not being afraid to shoot. Sometimes our girls need to be more selfish in front of the goal. They scored some great team goals, and hopefully the result shows they can be a strong attacking team."
Granados, a junior from Bogota, Colombia, opened OCU's scoring by capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity in the third minute. In the fifth minute, Granados knocked the ball off a Texas Wesleyan defender to put the Stars ahead 2-0.
In the 21st minute, Granados passed to April Hill, who dribbled towards the right post of the goal. Hill, a junior from Portsmouth, Petersfield, England, set up Granados to shoot towards the left post with a cross.
Granados gave OCU a 6-0 advantage by booting in a penalty kick in the 64th minute to notch her second hat trick of the season. Granados got past the goalkeeper for another goal and a 7-0 Stars lead in the 70th minute.
The Stars went up 4-0 when Madison Kemp used her head to sail a shot over the goalkeeper. Madison McEwin provided the assist on the goal in the 38th minute.
In the 52nd minute, Bailey Webb scored using an assist from Ashton Seratte. Webb, a senior from Oklahoma City, added her second goal of the night unassisted at the 71:40 mark.
The Stars posted their seventh shutout of the season. Abigail Banks and Josie Knox split time in goal and made a save each.
