OCU sweeps Central Christian 8-0, 11-6

Stars improve to 19-3 on season

McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University came away with 8-0, 11-6 wins over Central Christian (Kan.) on Tuesday at the Central Christian softball complex.
The Stars, ranked fourth in the NAIA, moved to 19-3, 12-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Christie Betker whitewashed Central Christian, while Mallory McCoy hit a two-run home run in the second game.
In the first game, Betker held Central Christian to two hits in five innings. Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., struck out two. Betker improved to 10-0 while recording her ninth complete game in 10 starts this season.
OCU exploded for six runs in the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Jones drove in two runs with a base hit to left. Sarah Fisher added an RBI single, while Baileigh Loux knocked in two runs on a single to left.
Loux put the Stars up 2-0 in the third with a base hit to right field. Loux went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Jones, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., scored twice, drove in two runs and had a 2-for-3 outing. Fisher, a senior from Vista, Calif., was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.  
In the nightcap, Oklahoma City jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning advantage. Loux smacked a two-run single to center, while Jaden Shores crushed an RBI triple into left. Brooklyn Mason had an RBI base hit.
In the second, Fisher put OCU ahead 6-1 by doubling to left to plate two runs. McCoy extended the lead to 8-1 by nailing a two-run homer over the left-center field.
Shelbey Cornelson took the win by striking out four in four innings. Cornelson, a sophomore from Tuttle, Okla., went to 6-1. Lexi Duff worked the final three innings to get the save.
Kennedy Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., had a 2-for-2 performance with two runs scored and an RBI, while McCoy, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Fisher was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Mason, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla.,  went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two run scored.
The Stars face Mid-America Christian in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Jack Allen Field in Oklahoma City.
