Stars secure 2-1 victory over USAO

SAC Tournament starts April 2

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fended off USAO 2-1 on Saturday at Brian Harvey Field.
Lucas de Freitas supplied the winning goal. The Stars went to 7-2-2, 6-2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer.
De Freitas, a junior from São Paulo, Brazil, took advantage of USAO goalkeeper Bram Dekker leaving the goal. De Freitas fired in his league-high 14th goal of the year off the assist of Wyatt Long. OCU led 2-0 in the 29th minute.
Ljubisa Palic collected a rebound of the ball off Dekker's save of Jusung Kang's shot attempt to knock in a goal. The Stars led 1-0 in the 22nd minute.
USAO scored in the 64th minute to cut OCU's lead to 2-1. Danilo Vilani, a junior from Goiânia, Brazil, made seven saves, including one with 11 minutes left to keep USAO from tying the score. OCU had a 17-16 edge in shots.
The Stars has secured the third seed in the upcoming SAC Tournament. The conference tournament quarterfinals will be April 2 with the semifinals April 6 and the championship April 9. Pairings will be determined prior to the tournament.
