OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University racked up 5-4 and 5-0 victories over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Noah Barks scored on a wild pitch to bring the Stars the Game 1 win, and OCU raced out to a 4-0 first-inning lead on the way to the doubleheader sweep. Oklahoma City, ranked 21st in NAIA baseball, improved to 16-11, 7-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU overcame a 4-2 deficit by plating three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gunner Halter pounded a two-run double deep into right-center field. With two out, Logan Mann uncorked a wild pitch to allow Barks to reach home plate with the winning run.
Cross Factor drove in OCU's first run with a base hit to right-center in the first inning. Bryson Lierle doubled to right to put the Stars ahead 2-0.
Tanner Lindle hit a grand slam in the fourth to give Southwestern Assemblies of God the lead.
Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., turned in a 2-for-4 outing with a double, two runs driven in and a run scored, and Cade Stephens, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., went 2-for-3 with a double.
Tyler Polk retired Southwestern Assemblies of God in order in the seventh to collect his first career win for the Stars. Polk, a redshirt freshman from Duncan, Okla., went to 1-1.
In the second game, Stephens hammered a two-run blast over the right-center wall to give the Stars a 4-0 first-inning advantage. Dalton Reed and Lierle smacked run-scoring doubles in the first.
Halter provided OCU a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 cushion in the second.
Connor Ferguson and Lierle combined on a one-hit shutout. Ferguson, a redshirt freshman righty from Boise, Idaho, struck out four while allowing two walks. Bryson Collins had Southwestern Assemblies of God's base hit with one out in third.
Peyton Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., led OCU with a 2-for-2 performance with a run scored.
The Stars face Oklahoma Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
