Stars blank Southwestern Christian 8-0, 20-0

OCU accumulates most hits since April 25, 2009

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stomped Southwestern Christian 8-0 and 20-0 on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
In the first game, OCU hit three home runs, while in the second game, Sarah Fisher smacked a round tripper. The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA softball, improved to 17-3, 10-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the second game, Oklahoma City plated 20 runs for the first time since a 20-0 win over Langston on March 26, 2019 in Langston, Okla. With 26 hits, the Stars piled up their highest hit total since posting 30 against Southwestern (Kan.) on April 25, 2009 at Ann Lacy Stadium.
In the second inning, OCU accumulated 12 runs on 14 hits. Kelsie Delap drove in a run with a base hit to shallow center field to put the Stars ahead 15-0 in the second inning.
In the fourth, Fisher pounded a three-run blast over the right-center field wall to give OCU a 20-0 advantage.
Fisher, a senior from Vista, Calif., turned in a 4-for-5 performance with four runs scored and four RBIs, and Jaden Shores, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., went 4-for-5 with a run scored and four runs driven in. Kennedy Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., posted a 4-for-5 effort with four runs scored and an RBI.
Shelbey Cornelson whitewashed Southwestern Christian on two hits in five innings. She struck out eight. Cornelson, a sophomore from Tuttle, Okla., notched her third shutout of the year.
In the first game, Christie Betker registered a season-high 12 strikeouts in a four-hit shutout of Southwestern Christian. Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., earned her third whitewash of the season.
Shores led off the bottom of the second by crushing a solo shot beyond the left-field wall. Kaitlyn Jones started the bottom of the third with a homer to left. Baileigh Loux gave OCU a 4-0 lead by pounding a two-run homer to center in the fourth.
Brooklyn Mason, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla., had a 3-for-3 outing with a run scored, and Jackson went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Fisher was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Nicole Robinson, a senior from Rochester, Ill., went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Stars visit Central Christian (Kan.) for a 3 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday in McPherson, Kan.
