FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University came up short to Texas Wesleyan 11-10 on Saturday at Sycamore Park.
Jose Sosa had an RBI single with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning to decide the contest. Oklahoma City, ranked 21st in NAIA baseball, moved to 14-10, 5-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars struck for three runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-8 advantage. Cade Stephens singled to right to tie the game 8-8. Dylan Taylor's ground ball put OCU ahead, and Gunner Halter nailed a run-scoring base hit.
Dalton Reed and Bryson Lierle crushed back-to-back home runs to touch off OCU's four-run inning in the sixth. Fredric Walter knocked in a run with a base hit, and Stephens tied the score 7-7 with an RBI single.
Cross Factor pounded a two-run double to stake the Stars to a first-inning 2-0 lead. Stephens launched a homer over the center-field fence to increase OCU's margin to 3-1 in the second.
Walter, a senior from Montigny, France, went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Stephens, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., turned in a 3-for-5 day with a run scored and three RBIs.
Jacob Wright, Connor Ferguson and Tyler Polk pitched Saturday.
The Stars return to Jim Wade Stadium for the first of a three-game set against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 6 p.m. Friday.
