Stars edge Southwestern Assemblies of God

OCU posts fourth, fifth shutouts of year

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University scraped past Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 1-0 and 4-0 on Friday at Southwestern Assemblies of God Field.
Sarah Fisher's sacrifice fly accounted for the only run of the first game, while Jaden Shores hit a home run to key the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked fourth in NAIA softball, improved to 14-2, 7-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Fisher, a senior from Vista, Calif., lofted a fly ball to left field to bring home Baileigh Loux in the seventh. Loux led off the inning by drawing a walk.
Christie Betker outdueled Autumn Graham from Southwestern Assemblies of God. Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., hurled a three-hit shutout. Betker (7-0) struck out 10, striking out the side in the second and the third. Betker retired the last batter with the tying run on third base.
In the second game, Shores sparked a four-run second inning by crushing a solo homer to left to lead off the inning. Amy Crabaugh added a sacrifice fly, while Kennedy Jackson nailed a two-run single to center.
Shelbey Cornelson blanked Southwestern Assemblies of God on four hits. Cornelson, a sophomore from Tuttle, Okla., fanned eight to move to 4-1.
Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Nicole Robinson, a senior from Rochester, Ill., was 1-for-2 and scored a run. Shores, a senior from Newcastle, Okla., hit her second homer of the year.
The Stars meet Langston in a 2 p.m. twin bill Tuesday in Langston, Okla.
