Stars trounce Texas Wesleyan 12-7, 19-7

OCU reaches double figures in runs for third consecutive contest

FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University blistered Texas Wesleyan 12-7 and 19-7 on Friday at Sycamore Park.
The Stars launched eight home runs out of the park Friday. Oklahoma City, ranked 21st in NAIA baseball, went to 14-9, 5-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, Dylan Taylor struck the big blow with a grand slam to left field to put the Stars on top 12-3 in the sixth inning. Peyton Crispin drew a bases-loaded walk just before Taylor's homer.
Oklahoma City plated four runs in the second. Crispin pounded a solo shot beyond the left-center field fence. Noah Barks drove in two runs with a triple into left field. The Stars led 5-1 after Cross Factor's groundout to bring home Barks.
The Stars built a 7-3 advantage as John Anthon smacked an RBI double along the left-field foul line.
Taylor, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., put together a 3-for-4 performance with four runs driven in, while Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Fredric Walter, a senior from Montigny, France, was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., turned in a 2-for-5 showing with an RBI.
Tanner Sparks, a junior right-hander from Shawnee, Okla., took the victory to move to 5-1 on the year. Grant Harrison, a junior righty from Jones, Okla., struck out two while working 1.2 scoreless innings.
In the next game, Gunner Halter hammered two homers, including a solo blast to lead off the game. Taylor capped a seven-run first inning for OCU by crushing a two-run shot over the center-field fence.
The Stars increased their cushion to 11-0 as Walter and Anthon belted back-to-back homers.
Halter smacked a two-run blast to left as OCU got out to an 18-2 advantage in the fourth. Bryson Lierle nailed a solo homer for a 19-2 fifth-inning margin.
Anthon, a senior from Dublin, Calif., provided OCU with a 4-for-5 performance with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Halter, a senior from Overland, Park, Kan., went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs knocked in.
Lierle, a senior from Altus, Okla., had a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored and four RBIs, and Barks, a junior from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., added two RBIs and two runs scored while going 2-for-2.
The Stars matched their season highs for hits (19, also against Mount Mercy (Iowa) on Feb. 26) and homers (six, also vs. Tabor (Kan.) on Feb. 22).
Jake Patterson collected the win. Patterson, a senior left-hander from Ardmore, Okla., moved to 5-1 on the year. He struck out four in six innings. Matthew Turpen and Riley DeMarco finished up on the mound.
OCU concludes its series against Texas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
