OCU finishes knotted with Mid-America Christian 1-1

Stars pin No. 22 Mid-America Christian with first tie of 2020-21

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University battled Mid-America Christian to a 1-1 draw Tuesday night at Evangel Field.
John Woodhead put the ball into the net for the Stars. Oklahoma City went to 5-1-2, 4-1-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Mid-America Christian, ranked 22nd in NAIA men's soccer, moved to 11-2-1, 5-0-1 SAC.
Woodhead booted in OCU's goal in the 17th minute. Woodhead converted on a free kick from the left side from 23 yards away from the goal. Woodhead's kick found the left post to put Oklahoma City in the lead 1-0.
Mid-America Christian tied the game in the 85th minute on Endri Copa's goal. OCU controlled the lead for 67:29 of the match.
The Stars had a couple of close calls to get their second goal of the contest. Guilherme Grave knocked a shot off the post in the 36th minute. Lucas de Freitas bounced a shot off the crossbar in the 106th minute.
Mid-America took 19 shots to Oklahoma City's 12. Danilo Vilani, a junior from Goiânia, Brazil, grabbed five saves, including two to protect the Stars' lead. OCU kept Mid-America Christian to one goal despite playing shorthanded the final 16 minutes.
The Stars face Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Saturday at Brian Harvey Field.
