OCU splits twin bill with Northwestern Iowa

Factor drives in tying run, scores go-ahead run and finishes win with diving catch

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rallied for a 5-4 win in the first game of a baseball doubleheader against Northwestern (Iowa) on Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars split the twin bill after falling 5-2 in nine innings in the second game. Oklahoma City, ranked 16th in NAIA baseball, moved to 7-6.
In the first game, OCU rallied with two runs in the fifth inning. Cross Factor sent a double into deep right field to tie the game. Factor reached home plate on an error for the go-ahead run.
In the third inning, Gunner Halter pounded an RBI double deep into the left-center field gap to put the Stars up 2-0.
Dalton Reed knocked in a run on a base hit to right-center in the fourth. OCU tied the game 3-3.
Jake Patterson (2-1) notched the victory after working the fifth inning. Patterson, a senior left-hander from Ardmore, Okla., struck out two. Tyler Polk scooped up his second save of the year. Polk, a redshirt freshman righty from Duncan, Okla., finished the final two innings on the mound. Polk fanned three, including two to end the sixth.
Factor clinched the victory by snaring a diving catch in right-center field for the last out.
Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., went 3-for-3, scored twice, doubled and drove in a run, and Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs. Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., turned in a 2-for-3 line with an RBI.
In the second game, Peyton Crispin drove in both runs for the Stars. Crispin nailed an RBI single along the left-field foul line in the fourth to cut OCU's deficit to 2-1.
In the seventh, Crispin led off the bottom of the inning by crushing his first home run of the year over the right-field wall to send the game to extra innings.
Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., posted a 3-for-3 performance with a run scored and two runs driven in. He finished a triple shy of the cycle.
The Stars begin Sooner Athletic Conference play against Mid-America Christian this week. OCU opens the series 2 p.m. Thursday on the road, then finishes with a 1 p.m. twin bill Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
