OCU tops Southwestern Assemblies of God

Stars move to 2-0 on season

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University took a 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday at the Sheaffer Center.
Catelyn Vargas, a sophomore from Lubbock, Texas, topped OCU with 13 kills. The Stars, ranked 16th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 2-0, 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Ella Lofton, a senior from Cedar Park, Texas, posted 12 kills and four blocks, while Sophia Salak, a junior from McKinney, Texas, dished out 31 assists for Oklahoma City. Olivia Nutter, a junior from Plano, Texas, added four blocks.
Vargas nailed three kills as OCU built an early 9-2 lead in the first set.
In the third set, erased a 9-7 deficit. Lofton had two kills to help the Stars go on top 16-11. OCU notched the final five points of the match as Vargas pounded three kills.
OCU faces John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
