Stars crush Tabor 10-2

OCU goes 1-1 on day in Rube Foster Classic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma City University rolled to a 10-2 win over Tabor (Kan.) on Monday afternoon at the Kansas City Royals Urban Youth Academy in the Rube Foster Classic.
Oklahoma City also fell to Missouri Baptist 11-2 on Monday morning. The Stars, ranked 16th in NAIA baseball, moved to 3-3 on the year.
Against Tabor, OCU crushed a season-high six home runs. John Anthon hammered a pair of homers, while Evan Maun, Dalton Reed, Cade Stephens and Fredric Walter each homered. The Stars had their most homers since hitting six against Bacone on Feb. 29, 2020.
Tanner Sparks posted his first career complete game with the Stars. Sparks, a junior right-hander from Shawnee, Okla., struck out eight while allowing two runs on five hits and a walk in seven innings. He moved to 2-0 this year.
Stephens, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., led off the fifth by nailing a solo shot beyond the right-field fence. After Walter doubled, Anthon went deep to left for a two-run homer. The Stars increased their lead to 6-1.
In the sixth, Anthon and Maun each struck for a two-run blast to left, moving OCU's advantage to 10-1.
Walter's homer to left leading off the third gave the Stars a 2-0 edge. Reed hit a solo shot over the center-field fence for a 3-1 fourth-inning OCU lead.
Anthon, a senior from Dublin, Calif., turned in a 3-for-3 performance with four RBIs, while Walter, a senior from Montigny, France, went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Against Missouri Baptist, Cross Factor brought in the first run of the game on a double to right in the first. Walter doubled along the left-field foul line in the seventh to account for the Stars' other run.
Tanner Schoeninger fanned eight in five innings for OCU.
The Stars take on Bethany (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lindsborg, Kan.
