OCU Rolls Past Southwestern Assemblies of God in SAC Road Contest

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God 85-59 in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Sheaffer Center on the SAGU campus.
 
The Stars never trailed to SAGU (4-5, 1-4 SAC) in the process of extending their winning streak to four games. OCU jumped out to an 8-1 lead midway through the first quarter before SAGU fought back to cut the deficit to 12-9 on a 3-pointer by Rylee Lavender at the 2:28 mark. That is as close as the Lady Lions would get.
 
OCU (8-1, 3-1) led 38-22 at the half and SAGU would get no closer than a 15-point deficit in the second half. The Stars took their biggest lead of the game at 76-46 on a lay-up by senior center Selena Driskill at the 5:19 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
Twelve players scored for the Stars with senior center Abby Selzer finishing with a team-high 15 points. She also recorded a team-high tying eight rebounds along with junior forward Fiona Wilson.
 
Junior guard Paige Pendley finished with 14 points, senior guard Annilia Dawn with 13 points and junior guard Kelsi Fitzgerald with a season-high 12 points.
 
OCU recorded its third-best shooting outing of the season, making 30 of 61 field goal attempts (49.2 %) while limiting SAGU to 19 of 72 shooting (26.4 %). The Stars out-rebounded the Lady Lions 48-39, marking the fifth time this season that OCU has out-rebounded its opponent by nine or more boards.
 
OCU returns to action on Wednesday night with a home conference game against John Brown (Ark.). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Abe Lemons Arena.
