PARK CITY, Kan. – Keegan Luton and Easton Rendleman came away with titles in the Friends Falcon Invitational in Oklahoma City University's first action of the season Saturday at Hartman Arena.
Drake Vannoy gave the Stars, ranked 11th in NAIA men's wrestling, another placer with a fourth-place finish.
Luton, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., bagged the 149-pound crown in his college debut. Luton clinched the title with an 8-1 win over Brandon Kidd of Cowley (Kan.) in the championship bout. Luton collected five wins, including a pin in 58 seconds against Israel Garza from Friends (Kan.).
Rendleman, a senior from Yukon, Okla., wrapped up his fourth career tournament title. Rendleman has captured the past two Sooner Athletic Conference crowns plus the Wayland Baptist Invitational title Dec. 7, 2019 in Plainview, Texas. Rendleman nabbed the 197-pound title with a 7-1 victory over Deandre Rucker of Texas Wesleyan in the championship final. Rendleman went 5-0 with two falls on the day.
Vannoy, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., pinned four foes Saturday. Vannoy stuck a fall against Malakai Owens of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in 19 seconds. Vannoy started off his season with a pin, finishing off Wayland Baptist's Gabriel Moblicci in 32 seconds.
The Stars meet Central Oklahoma, ranked fourth in NCAA Division II, in a 7 p.m. dual Wednesday in Edmond, Okla.
