Stars take on Champion Christian on homecoming

THE MATCHUP

• Oklahoma City University returns to action on Saturday with a home non-conference game against Champion Christian (Ark.)
• The Stars hold a 2-0 lead in the all-time series with the Tigers with the most recent contest being played in 2013
• Champion Christian competes at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II level
 
ABOUT THE STARS

• OCU is off to a 0-3 start this season. Two of those losses have been heartbreakers, an 83-80 setback to McPherson (Kan.) at the McPherson Classic on Oct. 30 and a 59-58 road loss at Wiley (Texas) on Monday
• Senior forward Romario Spence is the team leader in points (15.3 ppg) and rebounds (10.3 rpg) through three games
• Also averaging double-figures scoring for the Stars is senior guard Rashaun Coleman (13.0 ppg)
• The Stars took the eighth spot in the preseason SAC coaches poll. OCU owns 13 SAC regular-season championships and 10 SAC Tournament titles. Oklahoma City has advanced to the NAIA Championship Tournament 25 times all-time and has won six national championships in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS

• Champion Christian is off to a 1-1 start this season. The Tigers lost to Ecclesia College 94-72 in their opener on Oct. 29 before bouncing back for a 74-73 win over Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg on Oct. 30.
• CCC finished with a 19-9 record for the 2019-20 season, the last full season before the COVID pandemic hit.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES

Mark Berokoff (first season with OCU)
• Mark Berokoff guided Randall to three national championships and a national runner-up finish in nine years as head coach of the Saints. Berokoff's record with Randall was 147-122. Randall regularly challenged SAC squads and defeated OCU twice during that time

• Berokoff coached five national player of the year honorees, 16 all-Americans, three national tournament outstanding player award winners and one scholar all-American with Randall. Berkoff was two-time national coach of the year

• Berokoff's coaching career includes experience on the high school, college and professional levels. His combined head-coaching record over 19 years in the college and prep ranks is 372-199
 
Mo Capaci (8-9, second season with Champion Christian) 
• Capaci is an alumnus of Champion Christian who was a two-time All-American during his playing days. He is the school career leader in assists (600) and steals (250)
• Capaci served as head boys basketball coach at Gospel Light Christian School for five years before taking over at his alma mater
