MARSHALL, Mo. – Oklahoma City University senior
Destiny Lyng recorded a 9-0 decision over Grand View's Alexis Gomez on Saturday to earn 143-pound title honors at the Missouri Valley Open.
Lyng, a senior from La Mesa, Calif., took the fourth spot in the NAIA's 143-pound rankings, while Gomez held the No. 6 ranking among NAIA 155-pounders. Lyng went to 6-0 on the season.
After receiving a bye in round one, Lyng pinned Daphne Gonzalez of University of the Ozarks (Ark.) in round two in 11 seconds. She then reeled off three straight decisions before the win the in the championship round, 7-4 over Brelane Huber from Campbellsville (Ky.), 8-2 over Madison Diaz of Grand View (Iowa) and 2-0 over Waipuilani Estrella Beauchamp of Midland (Neb.).
OCU wrestling will return to the mat with a dual at Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Dec. 2.
