FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma City University dropped its season opener 37-9 to Texas Wesleyan in a battle of ranked NAIA women's wrestling teams Thursday night at Timber Creek High School.
Destiny Lyng and Mattison Parker provided the 13th-ranked Stars with victories.
At 143 pounds, Parker overwhelmed Maryellen Lafferty from fifth-ranked Texas Wesleyan 12-2. Parker, a junior from Haslet, Texas, finished the match in 3:41. Parker stands at No. 6 in the NAIA's 143-pound rankings.
Lyng collected the fall at 155 pounds in 3:31 over Leilani Hernandez. Lyng, a senior from La Mesa, Calif., holds the fourth spot in the 143-pound national ratings, while Hernandez is ranked seventh at 155.
Fifth-ranked Texas Wesleyan took three falls in the dual.
Oklahoma City wrestles next in the Missouri Valley Open on Nov. 19-20 in Marshall, Mo.
