OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to a 5-3 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday night at Brian Harvey Field.
Lucas de Freitas earned his fourth career hat trick to fuel the Stars. OCU built a 4-0 second-half lead on the way to improving to 7-2, 1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer.
Oklahoma City had a 3-0 lead at the 44:54 mark when de Freitas shot the ball into the net from close to the goal. Caden Ball sent the cross to de Freitas.
In the 49th minute, Ignacio Sarasol capitalized on John Woodhead's corner kick to pound the ball into the net off his head to put the Stars on top 4-0.
De Freitas nailed the ball off the right post and into the net to score his third goal of the match. OCU went up 5-2 in the 69th minute. De Freitas posted his first goal of the day using Manuel Belmonte's assist in the 17th minute. De Freitas owns seven goals against Southwestern Assemblies of God in his career after notching four March 2 in Waxahachie, Texas. De Freitas, a senior from São Paulo, Brazil, has nine goals this season.
Tommaso Belli put the Stars ahead 1-0 in the 12th minute. Belli scored off a header set up by Gustavo Cardoso. Belli, a sophomore from Rome, recorded his 13th goal of the year. OCU finished with 25 shots, 10 on goal, while Southwestern Assemblies of God generated nine shots with five on goal,
Oklahoma City faces Panhandle State at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Brian Harvey Field.
