OCU rally falls short to Bellevue 10-8

10th-ranked Stars finish weekend 1-1 against seventh-ranked Bellevue

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fell short to Bellevue (Neb.) 10-8 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium in a clash of top 10-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Peyton Crispin posted three hits, while Cross Factor hit a three-run home run for the Stars. Tenth-ranked OCU went to 5-2 this year.
Oklahoma City overcame a six-run deficit to knot the score 6-6 in the third inning. Factor crushed a three-run shot over the right-field wall to spark the Stars' rally. Tyler Williams reached home plate on Crispin's groundout, while Noah Barks pounded a two-run single to left.
In the eighth, John Anthon smacked a pinch-hit two-RBI base hit to right to cut OCU's deficit to one run.
Crispin had a single in the ninth to stir OCU in a comeback attempt. Fredric Walter reached on a hit by pitch. Bellevue relief pitcher Jarrett Poh retired Barks on a lineout to third base with two men on to clinch the outcome.
In the top of the ninth, Bellevue added an insurance run. Payton Higgins scored on Daniel Teasley's bunt in a suicide squeeze play.
Bellevue took a 7-6 fourth-inning edge when Riley Baasch nailed an RBI double along the third-base foul line. Chaz Lopez had a run-scoring single to give Bellevue an eighth-inning 9-6 lead.
Crispin, a junior from Lookeba, Okla., turned in a 3-for-5 performance with a run scored and an RBI, while Barks, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., added a 2-for-5 day, scored a run and drove in two runs for the Stars.
Factor, a junior from Yukon, Okla., brought his season totals to five homers and 14 RBIs in seven games so far for the Stars. He finished the weekend with two homers and seven runs knocked in over three games against seventh-ranked Bellevue and No. 20 Central Methodist (Mo.).
Brandon Goldston, a senior right-hander from Leedey, Okla., worked 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Goldston (1-1) absorbed the loss.
Oklahoma City meets Madonna (Mich.) at 2 p.m. Friday in Lebanon, Tenn. OCU will also take on Cumberland (Tenn.) next weekend.
When the Stars face Cumberland, the series will match the NAIA's leader and No. 2 individual among active coaches in career victories. Cumberland is led by Woody Hunt, who leads all current NAIA coaches with 1,538 wins, which is followed by Denney Crabaugh's 1,504 victories.
