Stars pound Bellevue 19-11

OCU absorbs first setback of season 4-1 to Central Methodist

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blitzed Bellevue (Neb.) 19-11, but also suffered its first loss of the season 4-1 to Central Methodist (Mo.) on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium in meetings between top 20-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
The Stars overwhelmed Bellevue with a 12-run first inning. Tenth-ranked OCU moved to 5-1 on the year.
Against Bellevue, Cross Factor and Evan Maun hammered home runs for the Stars. Factor sparked the 12-run uprising by crushing his fourth homer of the year over the center-field wall.
Factor added a two-run base hit to right field to give OCU a 7-1 first-inning cushion. The Stars sent 16 men to the plate in the inning and took advantage of three walks and two batters hit by pitch in addition to seven hits.
Fredric Walter drove in two runs with a single to center, while Dalton Reed and Peyton Crispin nailed back-to-back two-run doubles to put OCU ahead 11-1. Bryson Lierle, who earlier drew a bases-loaded walk, swatted an RBI single into right-center field for an 12-1 Stars lead. In the first, OCU plated seven runs with two outs.
In the fourth, Reed knocked in two runs with a base hit to right. The Stars tacked on four runs to go up 16-5.
In the fifth, Maun crushed his first career homer, a two-run pinch-hit blast beyond the center-field wall. Tyler Williams poked an RBI single to right to give OCU a 19-5 margin.
Factor, a junior from Yukon, Okla., and Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Crispin, a junior from Lookeba, Okla., put together a 2-for-2 performance with two runs scored and three runs driven in.
Williams, a senior from Peoria, Ariz., had a 2-for-3 showing with three runs scored plus an RBI, while Barks, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a run knocked in.
Aaron McGeorge struck out six in five innings. McGeorge, a senior right-hander from Lexington, Ky., earned his second victory of the season after logging 103 pitches. Kolin Marley, a senior righty from Norman, Okla., struck out Hunter Jury with the bases loaded to end the top of the sixth. Tanner Sparks, a sophomore right-hander from Shawnee, Okla., notched the last two outs in his OCU debut.
In the late game, Crispin launched a solo homer over the left-field wall to tie the game 1-1 in the fourth.
Jake Patterson, a senior left-hander from Ardmore, Okla., held Central Methodist in check until Sergio Macias hit a three-run homer to right in the fifth. Patterson fanned five in five innings while registering 104 pitches.
Mason Schwellenbach earned the victory for Central Methodist, while Macias picked up a save for working a scoreless seventh. Schwellenbach struck out six in six innings.
Oklahoma City faces Bellevue at 10 a.m., then Central Methodist at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
