OCU Offense Roars Out of the Gate as Stars Win Three on Opening Day

FORT WORTH, Texas - Offense was the story of the day for the third-ranked Oklahoma City University softball team on opening day Friday. The Stars headed south to take part in the 2020 NAIA Cowtown Classic , and from the start of the day, the OCU offense carried the Stars to a trio of victories.

OCU (3-0) swept away three Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents, as OCU took a 12-0 win over Bethel (Kan.) (1-1), a 7-3 win over Bethany (Kan.) and a 12-1 romp over Friends (Kan.)

It took OCU into the fourth inning in the first game of the day to break through, but when the Stars got on the board, they never looked back. Bailey Loux launched a two-run home run to put OCU on top 2-0 and spark a 3-run rally. The Stars added three more runs in the top of the sixth frame, and Jaden Shores ad Brooklyn Mason each had 2-RBI doubles in a six run seventh inning as OCU took a 12-0 win over the Threshers.

Shores (1-0) earned the win, tossing four and one third innings of relief and scattering three hits and two walks. Shores struck out five in the game. The loss was charged to Rylie Scudder (0-1) of Bethel, who yielded three earned runs on six hits.

After the Swedes tied the score in the fifth frame, Mason, Loux, and Sarah Fisher each drove in runs in the sixth, and Kennedy Jackson knocked in a pair in the seventh, as OCU defeated Bethany 7-3.

Jackson singled twice in four trips, and he scored two runs, and drove in two more. Fisher, Kaitlyn Jones, and Nicole Robinson each also had two hits in the game; Fisher also drew a pair of walks; and Jackson, Jones, and Robinson each scored twice as well.

In the final game of the day, OCU's offense tallied runs in each of the five innings. OCU added three runs in the fourth, and four in the fifth to cruise home with the 12-1 win over the Falcons.
