Stars snatch 83-70 win over Langston

OCU clinches its 22nd consecutive 20-win season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University surged past Langston 83-70 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Oklahoma City, ranked No. 1 in NAIA women's basketball, posted its 22nd consecutive 20-win season while remaining unbeaten this season. The Stars moved to 20-0, 12-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU has gone 668-87 for an .885 winning percentage since 1998-99. OCU has captured national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017 while reaching the national title game four other times, including a title tilt appearance last season. 
This week, Oklahoma City appeared in the top 25 for the 258th consecutive time dating back to 1997-98 for the longest active streak of appearing in the poll. The Stars grabbed all nine No. 1 votes and 219 points in the poll.
The Stars overcame a 40-39 halftime deficit. OCU trailed at halftime for the second time this season after erasing a 45-39 hole at the break Nov. 30 at Our Lady of the Lake (Texas). The Stars blew past a 43-39 deficit early in the third quarter.
OCU cashed in six foul shots during a 10-0 run after the game was tied 45-45. Taylor Sylvester sparked the onslaught with a jumper in the lane. Brennyn Seagler, Abby Selzer and NaShyla Hammons each sank a pair of free throws, while Selzer added a putback. Hammons' free throws pushed OCU's lead into double digits 55-45 with 3:57 showing in the third.
Erika Ankney canned a trey to increase the Stars' margin to 63-50 early in the fourth period for their largest advantage of the day.
Selzer, a sophomore from Thomas, Okla., totaled 22 points, six rebound and two steals in 20 minutes on the floor. Selzer sank 10 of 12 free-throw attempts to match season highs in both categories.
Hammons, a senior from Oklahoma City, equaled season bests with 17 points and four steals while shooting 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. Mallory Lockhart, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, picked up 10 points, three assists and two steals for the Stars.
OCU hit 31 of 35 free-throw tries to surpass 30 free throws made for the third time this season. The Stars snatched a season-high 17 steals led by Seagler, a senior from Gruver, Texas, who swiped a season-best five thefts. OCU converted Langston's 23 turnovers into 29 points.
The Stars meet Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 6 p.m. Thursday inside Abe Lemons Arena.
