OCU rolls to 88-51 win over Central Christian

Top-ranked Stars close in on 22nd consecutive 20-win season

McPHERSON, Kan. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University breezed past Central Christian (Kan.) 88-51 on Thursday night at Dr. Jerry E. Alexander Arena.
Mallory Lockhart, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, sparked OCU with 22 points and three steals. The Stars, top-ranked in NAIA Division I women's basketball, remained unbeaten at 19-0, 11-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lockhart surpassed 20 points for the sixth time this season. Lockhart nailed 6 of 11 3-point shots. Abby Selzer, a sophomore from Thomas, Okla., powered OCU with 18 points and eight rebounds. Selzer sank all 10 of her foul shots and did all her damage in 13 minutes of play.
Brennyn Seagler, a senior from Gruver, Texas, accumulated 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while Taylor Sylvester, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., contributed 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots for the Stars. OCU's NaShyla Hammons, a senior from Oklahoma City, added 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals while shooting 4-for-4 from the field. Hammons matched her season high in thefts.
Oklahoma City will attempt to reach 20 victories for the 22nd consecutive season against Langston at 2 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena. OCU has gone 667-87 for an .885 winning percentage since 1998-99. OCU has captured national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
The Stars trailed 5-2 early, but Lockhart rallied OCU with eight consecutive points. Lockhart dropped in back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Stars ahead 10-5 at the 6:05 mark of the first quarter.
OCU pushed its lead into double digits with a 9-0 run in the second period. Selzer's bucket gave the Stars a 32-22 advantage with 2:45 left in the second. Seagler canned a 3 to cap the surge and put OCU ahead 37-22 with 44 seconds remaining in the half.
Jaelyn Knight tallied a 3-point play to give the Stars their largest lead of the night 86-42 with 4:16 left in the game.
The Stars topped 80 points for the third consecutive contest.
