OCU defeats Bethany 2-1

Ljubisa Palic scores two goals to give Stars fourth win

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University men's soccer team snagged its third one-goal win on the season as Ljubisa Palic's game-winning goal pushed the Stars past Bethany (Kan.) 2-1 Tuesday at Brian Harvey Field. The win puts Oklahoma City at 4-3, as the men obtain their first winning record of the year. OCU improved their home record to 3-2.
Palic, a sophomore from St. Gallen, Switzerland, provided the heroics once again for OCU, this time putting his team up 2-0 in the first 18 minutes. In the Stars' last match, Palic scored two goals in the first 28 minutes to carry OCU to a 4-0 victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana.
He struck first again in Tuesday's match, scoring in the 13th minute off a ball from Nick Stremel to put the Stars ahead 1-0. Palic notched his second goal, and fifth of the season, in the 18th minute to put OCU up for good. Gustavo Cardoso sent a long ball to Palic, who dribbled to the center of the pitch to bury a 12-yard shot in the bottom left corner.
Then in the 54th minute, Bethany's Zen Baatjes finished a tap-in after a long free kick was sent in by Lisandro Nunez. The Swedes put pressure on the Stars in the second half but couldn't muster an equalizer in the final 36 minutes of play.
Senior goalkeeper Andre Salvador totaled three saves on the night and has a 4-3 record in goal on the year.
Oklahoma City returns to action against Bethel (Kan.) at 7 p.m. Friday in North Newton, Kan.
