OCU falls 1-0 to Friends

Stars move to 2-3 overall

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University suffered a 1-0 setback at the hands of Friends (Kan.) in their fifth match of the season Wednesday at Brian Harvey Field.
The Stars, now 2-3 overall, and Falcons played to a scoreless draw until the 83rd minute when Friends got a goal from Marcos Recio Blanco and took the 1-0 victory.
In the 33rd minute, OCU goalkeeper Andre Salvador stopped a penalty kick from Juan Zamora to keep the match level at 0-0.
The squads combined for a total of 17 shots in the first half, Friends with 9 and OCU with 8, but no one found the back of the net and the first half ended with a score of 0-0.
Salvador, who made three saves in the first half, recorded four more saves between the 49th and 67th minutes to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard.
Friends took a 1-0 lead in the 83rd minute when Recio Blanco secured a ball from Juan Valdes and found the back of the net.
Ljubisa Palic put two shots on target early in the second half, but Friends goalkeeper Kaden Jobe made two stops. The Stars did not record a shot after the Falcons' goal and Friends came away with a 1-0 victory.
Salvador played all 90 minutes in goal for the Stars and made seven saves, upping his season total to 34.
The Stars will return to action against Texas A&M-Texarkana at 3 p.m. Saturday at Brian Harvey Field.
