Stars stand third in preseason national poll

OCU opens season Sept. 3-4 in U.C. Ferguson Classic

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After finishing third at the NAIA Championships last year, Oklahoma City University has been selected to finish at the same spot in the 2019 NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Top 25 preseason poll.
OCU stands behind only Texas Wesleyan and Coastal Georgia, who both received first-place votes, in the top 25.
The Stars sat in the top three in every 2018-19 poll, landing the top spot in the first four polls of the season. OCU had seven victories and three second-place finishes in 12 events during 2018-19, including a third-place finish at last year's NAIA Championships in Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The Stars' posted a team scoring average of 289.74.
Oklahoma City finished second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, carding a 289-293-289–871 on the par-71, 6,805-yard La Paloma Course.
The Stars have captured national championships in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2018.

OCU will tee off for the first time this season on Sept. 3 in the 47th annual U.C. Ferguson Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Course, a tournament the squad won a year ago. The Stars will return to Oklahoma City one more time in the fall, playing in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate on Oct. 28-29 at Gaillardia Country Club.
Top-ranked Texas Wesleyan is the defending national champion as well as the SAC champ. Wayland Baptist (Texas) of the SAC also found a spot in the poll. The Pioneers come in at No. 11 with 326 points after finishing the 2018-19 season in the same position.
