Stars fall to Concordia 2-0

Harvey to try for his 800th win Tuesday at home

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University began its men's soccer season with a defeat, losing 2-0 to Concordia (Neb.) on Saturday afternoon in the first ever match played at Brian Harvey Field.
Moises Jacobo sealed the Stars' fate with a tap-in goal in the 76th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
OCU coach Brian Harvey's combined men's and women's record sits at 799-324-68 in his 34th year. He has compiled a 429-203-41 in men's soccer and a 370-121-27 mark in women's soccer. The Stars will attempt to give Harvey career victory No. 800 in the women's home opener 5 p.m. Tuesday against Bethany (Kan.) at Brian Harvey Field. The Oklahoma City men's team (0-1) will follow at 7 p.m. in the Tuesday night doubleheader.
At the 75:29 mark, Matthew Ho sent a ball to the corner where Joao Pedro Verissimo collected and sliced a cross through the Oklahoma City defense, and Jacobo did the rest.
The game-winning goal came in the 53rd minute after a scoreless first-half battle. Verissimo's smooth ball to the feet of Renzo Bosso resulted in a close shot that found the back of the net.
Concordia (1-0) had a 19-12 edge in shots, finding the target on nine occasions.
After a nearly even first half, the Bulldogs outshot the Stars 10-4 in their dominant final 45 minutes.
The Stars only put four of their 12 shots on target, two in each half.
Carlos Ferrer led the Bulldogs with five shots, putting two on goal. Jacobo also finished the game with two shots on target. Roger de la Villa recorded three shots, firing one on goal.
Andrew Flores and Ljubisa Palic led Oklahoma City with four shots apiece. Both hit one on target, as Palic had a one-on-one chance denied by Concordia goalkeeper Eduardo Alba.
Andrija Sreckovic also had multiple shots for the Stars, placing one of his two on target. The Stars led in corner kicks, 6-3. OCU's Andre Salvador finished with seven saves, while Alba ended up collecting four saves.
