Stars top Panhandle State 10-9

OCU to pick up game vs. Mid-America Christian in seventh inning 11 a.m. Monday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University held onto a 10-9 victory over Panhandle State on Sunday in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
Bryson Lierle drove in the winning run on a double. The Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA baseball, improved to 44-11 on the year.
Oklahoma City led Mid-America Christian 8-2 with two out in the seventh inning Sunday night when rain intervened. The game was suspended and is set to resume 11 a.m. Monday.
Lierle belted an RBI double deep into left field with two out in the eighth inning to put OCU ahead 10-8. Tyler Williams provided the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
In the seventh, Seth Jones whacked a double into right-center field to move the Stars up 8-7. Peyton Crispin notched a sacrifice fly to erase a 7-6 deficit.
Williams pounded a two-run blast over the left-field fence for his 15th home run of the year. Williams increased the OCU lead to 6-3 in the fifth.
The Stars overcame a 3-0 first-inning deficit. Quinton Walbergh and Williams drew bases-loaded walks to provide OCU its first runs of the day. Lierle knocked in a run on a base hit to right, then Caleb Davis completed the rally with a groundout to score a run and finish off OCU's four-run third.
Lierle, a junior from Altus, Okla., pieced together a 3-for-5 game with a run scored and two RBIs. Williams, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., went 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs. Noah Barks, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., scored twice and went 1-for-3.
Chris Goldston (4-0) scooped up the victory. Goldston, a freshman right-hander from Leedey, Okla., struck out four in two innings. Tanner Andrews snatched up his eighth save of 2019. Andrews, a senior righty from Asher, Okla., fanned all four batters he faced to slam the door shut on Panhandle State.
