OCU wins twice to open SAC Tournament

Shores collects two wins Thursday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University began the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament with a 6-1 win over Langston and followed with a 10-2 run-rule victory over Panhandle State on Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City (52-6) sits at 2-0 along with Mid-America Christian on top of the pool play at OCU. The two teams will play 3 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium for a spot in the tournament championship game.
OCU reached 50 victories for the 23rd time in program history and 22nd time under Phil McSpadden. The Stars collected forfeits from Bacone to finish the regular season.
The Stars kicked off game one against Langston (17-32) with a run in the bottom of the first. Kennedy Jackson scored on a groundout.
OCU added two runs in the second when Bailey Whitmore doubled to left center to drive in Gaby Zucchiatti and Whitmore came home on a sacrifice fly by Jackson.

Oklahoma City built a 6-0 lead in the fourth, Baileigh Loux scored on a throwing error in the fourth and then Sha Ingram scored on a groundout.
Langston got its run in the top of the seventh on a groundout to second that allowed Kiamni Woodard to score.
Jaden Shores was remarkable in the circle for the Stars picking up the win to move to 25-4 this season. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven while walking only three.
Kylie Dodson finished off the Lions by pitching the final two innings. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., allowed a run on two hits and had a strike out.
OCU had six players collect a hit and were led by Zucchiatti, a junior from Millbrae, Calif., led the way going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In game two, Panhandle State (29-21) took a short lived lead in the top of the first.
The Aggies got their run when Jaylinn Reyes doubled down the left field line to knock in Karah Ortiz.
The Stars responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jackson scored when the third baseman overthrew the first baseman on a bunt by Loux, then Jaci Smith scampered home on a Kaylor Battiest wild pitch, Loux then scored on a Brittany Perez sacrifice fly and Whitmore singled home Julianne Abeloe.
Panhandle State added a run in the second inning, when Chrislyn Dovers tripled into the corner in right driving in Jena Konieczka.
Loux doubled Shelby Riggs and Jackson in the third and then in the fifth Loux singled home Jackson to make the score 8-2.
The Stars received back-to-back bases loaded walks in the sixth to force home Abeloe and Zucchiatti, the final two runs and give OCU the run rule victory.
Shores moves to 26-4 after allowing three hits, two runs and striking out five in five innings. Dodson threw an inning, allowing a hit and striking out two.
Loux, a sophomore out of Reno, Nev., finished 4-of-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.
