OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University extended its winning streak to 14 games after rolling past Texas Wesleyan 6-2 and 9-0 in Tuesday's doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jaci Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, led the Stars with three hits, four RBIs, five runs scored and hit two home runs on the day. OCU, ranked No. 2 in NAIA softball, moved to 36-4 overall and 18-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference while Texas Wesleyan fell to 13-33 on the year and 8-12 in conference play.
Kennedy Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., finished with four hits and three runs scored on Tuesday. Baileigh Loux, a junior from Reno, Nev., added three total hits, two total RBIs and two total runs against the Lady Rams.
Texas Wesleyan took the lead early lead in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Rams' Hailey Hollingsworth squeezed a double just inside the left field line to drive in Jenna Rhoades and Lacy Mann.
The Stars cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first when Morgan McCallum's fly ball to center was dropped and Kennedy Jackson scored. McCallum tied the game at 2-2 in the third on a squeeze bunt to knock in Loux.
In the fourth, Jaci Smith launched a two-run home run in the fourth knocking in Sha Ingram, then in the sixth Smith unloaded on her second home run and Julianne Abeloe finished the scoring when she singled home Brittany Perez.
Jaden Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., allowed five hits over seven innings and tossed eight strikeouts to earn her 18 win of the season.
The Stars got off to hot start in game two, exploding for two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Smith singled home Jackson and then Abeloe had a bases loaded walk to force home Shelby Riggs.
Loux doubled to deep center to knock in Riggs and Smith in the second.
Oklahoma City extended their lead to 9-0 in the fourth innings. Perez reached on an infield single to score Jackson, McCallum doubled to left center driving in Smith and Loux, McCallum scored on Gaby Zucchiatti's infield single and Abeloe came home on a grounder.
Kylie Dodson, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., pitched five innings and allowed four hits while striking out two.
Oklahoma City plays next at 2 p.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at Ann Lacy Stadium.
