OCU rolls Southwestern Assemblies of God 14-1, 8-4

Stars collect 26 hits on the day

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dominated Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 14-1 and 8-4 to sweep the doubleheader Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, improved to 33-9 on the season and 13-4 in SAC play. The top four batters in the lineup collected 13 hits on the day to spearhead the Stars' victories.
In the first game, the Stars jumped out to a 11-0 lead in the top of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Elliot Cary scampered home on a passed ball, Seth Jones then laced a single back up the middle to drive in Tyler Williams and Caleb Davis. Peyton Crispin scored on an infield hit to short by Dylan Taylor, followed by a two-run double by Quinton Walbergh scoring Jones and Grant Harrison. Cary added a double to knock in Jared Hazeldine and Walbergh. Bryson Lierle capped off the inning with a three-run blast to dead center scoring Cary and Williams.
OCU starter Bryce Milligan received the win and struck out six batters, while staying perfect through five innings of work. Harrison had four strikeouts in two inning of relief, allowing a run on three hits.
Oklahoma City added three runs in the fourth to stretch its lead to 14-0. Walbergh Doubled home Jones, then Harrison scored on a groundout and Williams singled home Walbergh.
Walbergh went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs and a walk, Cary recorded a 2-for-4 game three RBIs and two runs, Williams was 2-of-4 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI and Lierle went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run and a home run.
In the second game, SAGU jumped in front in the top of the first with two runs. Kyle Coolidge doubled home Ben Bills and Tanner Lindle's sacrifice fly scored Coolidge.
OCU wasted no time getting the lead as Walbergh scored on a Cary single to shallow right and then Williams unloaded on the second pitch lifting it over the net in right.
Oklahoma City's offensive onslaught continued in the fifth inning to a tone of four runs. Hazeldine notched an RBI single followed by a grounder that Cary beat the throw on to allow Joseph Garza to score and Williams singled home Hazeldine that made it a 7-2 Stars lead.
The Lions pushed across two runs in the sixth inning to cut the OCU's lead to 7-4. Lindle powered a two-run home run over the right field wall.
OCU added a run in the sixth inning when Chris Goldston walked with the bases loaded to force home Crispin.
The Stars' Jake Patterson picked up the win throwing 5.1 innings fanning eight and allowing eight hits and four runs. Tyler Milligan collected his third save of the season coming in to pitch the final 1.2 innings, striking out three batters.
Williams, Garrett Horton and John Anthon each nabbed two hits, while the Stars totaled 12 hits in the game. Williams went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a run and a home run. Stars are back in action against SAGU to finish the series at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
