OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed the sweep after rolling past Panhandle State 13-3 and 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
Quinton Walbergh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., ended the doubleheader with four RBIs, including a home runs in game one. Tyler Williams, a junior from Phoenix, also provided the Stars with four total hits on Saturday, notching two each game two. OCU, ranked ninth in NAIA baseball, improved to 41-10 overall and 20-4 in the SAC while Panhandle State falls to 18-34 on the year and 9-15 in conference play.
Oklahoma City's bats continues to stay hot going into the day, as OCU finished the game with 11 hits, including two doubles and two home runs. Walbergh got the Stars on the board first with a three-run home run to left field, then Peyton Crispin flared an RBI single down the right field line to give Oklahoma City a 5-0 lead in the first. Elliott Cary launched a second inning two-run home run.
Noah Bark drove in Garrett Horton on a sacrifice fly and Cary singled home Jared Hazeldine to put the OCU ahead 7-0 after three complete innings.
Panhandle State got a run on a Jake Dean solo home run in the fourth, but the Stars answered back with a run in their half of the inning when Horton doubled home Caleb Davis.
In the sixth, OCU added three more runs. Horton was walked with the bases loaded to score Dillon Goddard and then Williams and Daxton Marley scored on an error by the center fielder.
The Aggies got two runs in the seventh off a Luiz Rodriguez single that drove in Payton Rhodes and Aaron Moreno.
Cary, a senior from Niceville, Fla., went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, three RBIS and two runs scored, while Crispin, a sophomore from Lookeba, Okla., finished 1-of-2 with two RBIs.
Jake Patterson improved to 8-1 on the mound after going six innings and allowing a run on five hits while striking out seven. Chris Bennefield pitched the final inning in relief and gave up two runs and three hits while tossing a strikeout.
Oklahoma City and Panhandle State were tied at two heading to the bottom of the fifth inning in game two. Davis drove in first run of the game on a single to center, knocking in Walbergh.
In the sixth, Walbergh tripled to right center to drive in Cary, then Williams singled home Walbergh.
Panhandle State scored a run the in the seventh when Dean singled home Moreno.
Brandon Goldston earned the win for the Stars as he pitched 6.1 innings allowing a run on six hits and tossed seven strikeouts to improve to 8-4 on the year. Tanner Andrews, a senior from Asher, Okla., earned his seventh save of the season after throwing 0.2 innings allowing a hit.
Oklahoma City concludes the regular season at Wayland Baptist starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. at Myrt Wilder Field in Plainview, Texas.
