Stars cruise to pair of wins

Smith drives in seven runs Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University swept a pair of games Saturday at Two Rivers Youth Complex over Baker (Kan.) 6-2 and Friends (Kan.) 13-2.
Jaci Smith pounded two home runs in a game for the fourth time in her career in the late game. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 20-2.
Against Baker, Smith drove in the first four runs for OCU. Smith nailed an RBI double in the first inning, then added a sacrifice fly to center field in the third. Smith smacked a two-run double to left-center field for a 4-0 Stars lead in the fifth.
Bailey Whitmore launched a two-run homer to left to put OCU ahead 5-0 in the fifth. Whitmore hit her second homer of the year.
Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, put together a 2-for-3 outing with four RBIs, while Kennedy Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-3 and scored three runs for the Stars.
Jaden Shores notched the victory after striking out four in 4.2 innings. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., went to 10-1 on the year. Kylie Dodson earned her first save after fanning three in 2.1 innings.
Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., entered the game with the bases loaded and two out in the fifth. Dodson got out of the jam by retiring Eva Gonzalez on a popup.
Against Friends, Smith crushed a solo shot over the left-center field fence in the third. Smith hammered a two-run blast beyond center field to push OCU's advantage to 10-2 in the fifth.
Shelby Riggs bashed a three-run homer in the third to put the Stars up 6-0. Riggs added an RBI single in the fifth for the final margin.
Smith had a 3-for-3 night with three RBIs, while Morgan McCallum, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, went 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Riggs, a redshirt freshman from Binger, Okla., knocked in four runs while going 2-for-3.
Dodson picked up the win and her ninth complete game of the season. Dodson owns a 10-1 mark.

The Stars face Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in a 2 p.m. twin bill Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
