OCU derails Mid-America Christian 7-0, 15-0

Second-ranked Stars go toe-to-toe with No. 1-ranked USAO at 4 p.m. Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blistered Mid-America Christian 7-0 and 15-0 on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jaci Smith produced three home runs, seven RBIs and six hits for Oklahoma City. The Stars, rated second in NAIA softball, improved to 22-2, 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
A showdown between No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the NAIA ratings looms as Oklahoma City clashes with defending national champion and top-ranked USAO in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Bill Smith Ballpark.
Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, went 6-for-7 on the day. In the first game, Smith put OCU on the scoreboard by smashing a two-run homer to left field in the first inning.
The Stars' lead grew to 5-0 in the second inning. Smith reached on an infield single, then OCU took advantage of an error to score two runs. Baileigh Loux smacked an RBI single to center field that Smith scored on.
Loux increased OCU's lead to 7-0 as she drove in two runs on a base hit off the glove of third baseman Alanna Leisy.
Loux, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., picked up three hits and three RBIs in three at-bats, while Smith went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in two runs.
Kennedy Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., reached home plate three times, swiped a base and went 2-for-3, and Shelby Riggs, a redshirt freshman from Binger, Okla., had a 3-for-3 performance for OCU. Julianne Abeloe, a senior from Santa Paula, Calif., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Jaden Shores collected her third complete-game shutout of the season. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., lasted seven innings and held Mid-America Christian to three hits and two walks. Shores (11-1) racked up eight strikeouts.

In the second game, Smith turned in a 4-for-4 performance with two homers, a stolen base and five RBIs. Her two-run blast to left field put the Stars ahead 7-0 in the second, while her three-run shot over the left-field wall grew the OCU lead to 15-0 in the fourth. Smith increased her NAIA-high home run total to 12.
Jackson poked a triple along the left-field foul line in the second to put the Stars on top 5-0.
Abeloe added a 2-for-2 showing with two runs scored, and Jackson went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two runs brought in. Brittany Perez, a senior from Ventura, Calif., scored twice and knocked in two runs on a 1-for-3 stat line, while Morgan McCallum, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, was 3-for-3.
