OCU grabs series win over USAO

Stars win their 20th game of the season in game one

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team split two games winning 4-3 and dropping a 7-1 contest Saturday against USAO at Jim Wade Stadium to win their second straight conference series after a 8-2 win Thursday.
Oklahoma City, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA, pushed their winning streak to seven games after the game one victory. The Stars now sit at 20-3 and 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while USAO is now 19-4, 3-2 SAC.
OCU fell behind 1-0 after the top half of the third inning in game one, but exploded for four runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead.
The Stars only recorded one hit in the inning. The inning was highlighted by five walks and a hit by pitch, after an Elliott Cary two-out single to get things started.
USAO, ranked 9th in the NAIA, were only able to muster two run the rest of the way as Stars' pitcher Tanner Andrews shut the door on a Jake Patterson victory.
Patterson, a junior out of Ardmore, Okla., got the victory after pitching 5.2 innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs and striking out six. Andrews, a senior from Asher, Okla., collected his second save of the season throwing the final 1.1 innings allowing a run and struck out three.
Cary led the way offensively in game one, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Bryson Lierle went 1-for-1 with two walks a run scored and an RBI.
In game two, USAO jumped ahead 2-0 in the third inning, when J.P. Garcia drove in Elvin Alamo on a grounder to the shortstop, and Garcia came around to score on an Alex Sanchez double to center.
Luis Pelayo scored on an Alamo single and then Miguel Lorenzo drove in Brock Henderson and Alamo with a double to left center in the fourth getting out front 5-0. The Drovers added a run in the fifth on a Ian Laureano squeeze bunt.
OCU scored their only run in the sixth when Lierle grounded to second scoring Tyler Williams to cut the lead to 6-1.
USAO got a run back in the seventh when Daniel Lafarga doubled in Coleton Horner.
OCU will host Bethany (Kan.) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jim Wade Stadium.
