Stars roll to 8-2 win over USAO

OCU improves to 2-1 vs. ranked foes in 2019

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University prevailed 8-2 over USAO on Thursday at Bill Smith Ballpark in a clash of top 10-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Quinton Walbergh led off the third inning with home run to touch off a four-run inning for OCU. The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, moved to 19-2, 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Bryce Milligan struck out a career-high 15, while Elliott Cary added a homer for Oklahoma City. Ninth-ranked USAO dropped to 18-3, 2-1 in SAC play.
Milligan's string of innings without giving up an earned run to start this season ended at 35.1 innings. Daniel Lafarga had an RBI single with two out in the first inning to give USAO its first run of the night.
Milligan, a junior right-hander from Blanchard, Okla., improved his record to 5-0 this year. He scattered 10 hits while throwing his fourth complete game of the year. Milligan logged 136 pitches and threw 94 for strikes. He fanned 10 or more for the third consecutive start.
In the third, Walbergh pounded his first homer of the year over the left-field wall. Tristan Williams added an RBI double, and Dylan Taylor laid down a squeeze bunt to allow Caleb Davis to reach home plate. OCU went ahead 6-1 on Grant Harrison's RBI single to shallow right field.
Cary hit his second homer of 2019 out to right in the eighth inning. Noah Barks, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., had a 3-for-5 evening with a double and an RBI, while Tyler Williams, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., went 2-for-5, doubled and scored twice for OCU.
Oklahoma City banged out 10 or more hits for the seventh time this year.
The Stars take on USAO in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
