Smith from Stars collects NAIA player of week

OCU student-athletes own six weekly honors from NAIA in 2018-19

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jaci Smith of Oklahoma City University took NAIA softball player of the week for March 18-24.
Smith, a senior catcher from Godley, Texas, became the latest Star to garner weekly accolades from the NAIA. OCU student-athletes have collected six NAIA athlete of the week awards in 2018-19.
Smith hit .722 with three doubles, two homers, 17 RBIs and six stolen bases, going 13-for-18 over the past week.
Smith posted two home runs with 12 RBIs in the Stars' 24-0 and 16-0 doubleheader sweep of Central Christian on March 20 in McPherson, Kan. She went 5-for-5 for the first time in her career, stole two bases and drove in seven runs to match her career high during the second game. Smith was 9-for-10 in the doubleheader sweep.
In 2019, Smith leads the NAIA in homers, RBIs, hits, runs scored, total bases, runs scored per game, runs driven in a game and total bases a contest.
The second-ranked Stars (30-4) face Central Christian (Kan.) at 2 p.m. April 2 at Ann Lacy Stadium. Watch the doubleheader live here.
The Sooner Athletic Conference swept the NAIA players of the week as Emily Cerny from USAO grabbed pitcher of the week. The SAC last snagged both weekly NAIA softball awards as Texas Wesleyan's Makenna Aycock and Bailey Terry snatched the honors for April 2-8, 2018. The SAC boasts of 22 NAIA athlete of the week accolades in 2018-19.
