Stars rout Langston 20-0, 15-1

Second-ranked OCU knocks out season-best 22 hits

LANGSTON, Okla. – Oklahoma City University cruised to 20-0 and 15-1 wins over Langston on Tuesday at T.G. Green Park.
The Stars have scored at least 11 runs each time and 20 runs three times in the past eight games. Oklahoma City, ranked second in NAIA softball, went to 30-4, 12-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, Shelby Riggs and Jaci Smith each pounded grand slams, while Jaden Shores notched her sixth career no-hitter for OCU.
Riggs hammered a grand slam to spark a 10-run third inning for the Stars. Riggs' home run gave OCU a 9-0 advantage.
Baileigh Loux added an RBI double, while Julianne Abeloe drove in three runs with a double to left-center field. Bailey Whitmore and Kennedy Jackson knocked in runs on singles to push the Stars' lead to 15-0.
Smith crushed her NAIA-high 17th homer in the fifth. Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in four runs.
Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., turned in a 4-for-4 performance with three runs scored and four RBIs, and Whitmore, a senior from Oklahoma City, went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a run driven in.
OCU equaled its season best with 22 hits, which the Stars had against Central Christian (Kan.) on March 19.
Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., allowed four walks and struck out two in five innings. Shores' record went to 14-3.
OCU plated eight runs in the fifth inning of the second contest. Riggs brought home two runs on a base hit to right-center field, and Smith added a two-run double. Loux tacked on a two-RBI base hit. Morgan McCallum knocked in a run on a base hit, while Abeloe closed out the scoring on a run-scoring double.
McCallum, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, had her second 4-for-4 game of the season with two runs scored and two RBIs. Smith posted a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two runs driven in, and Loux went 2-for-3, scored three times and drove in three.
Kylie Dodson earned the win. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., had two strikeouts on four hits and a walk in five innings. Dodson improved to 15-1 on the year.
The Stars will be idle until a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Central Christian (Kan.) on April 2 at Ann Lacy Stadium.
