OCU blanks Central Christian 19-0, 13-0

McSpadden moves victory total to 1,698

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University swept a softball doubleheader from Central Christian (Kan.) 19-0 and 13-0 on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked second in the NAIA, improved to 32-4, 14-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OCU's victories pushed Phil McSpadden's career win total to 1,698.
McSpadden owns a record of 1,698-380 in his 32nd year as Oklahoma City coach. McSpadden leads college softball in coaching victories against four-year schools. The Stars meet Southwestern Christian in a 2 p.m. twin bill Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium with a chance to put McSpadden at 1,700 career wins.
Oklahoma City moved its winning streak to 10. The Stars have reached double digits in runs in each of their wins. OCU has averaged 16.5 runs scored while notching seven shutouts during its win string.
Julianne Abeloe completed the day 7-for-7 batting, and Jaci Smith went 6-for-6 on Tuesday. Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, hit her NAIA-high 18th home run of the year.
In the first game, OCU piled up seven runs to build a 14-0 third-inning advantage. Smith pounded a three-run home run beyond the right-field wall to give the Stars a 13-0 cushion. Abeloe and Bailey Whitmore added RBI singles, while Kennedy Jackson smacked a two-run base hit.
Brittany Perez sparked the Stars by crushing a two-run blast over the right-center field wall in the first inning. Shelby Riggs nailed a two-run homer to left to give OCU a 5-0 second-inning lead. Smith mashed a triple to right to put the Stars ahead 6-0.

Abeloe, a senior from Santa Paula, Calif., posted her first 4-for-4 game in her OCU career, doubling, scoring twice and knocking in two runs. Smith drove in six runs, scored four times and went 3-for-3.
Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., turned in a 3-for-3 performance, scored three runs and brought home two runs, while Riggs, a redshirt freshman from Binger, Okla., was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Whitmore, a senior from Oklahoma City, went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Jaden Shores (16-3) produced her eighth whitewash and 15th complete game of the year. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., limited Central Christian to two hits and one walk in five innings. Shores picked up six strikeouts and retired the final 11 batters in order.
In the second game, Whitmore knocked in two runs with a double to center field to provide OCU a 5-0 first-inning advantage.
In the third inning, Smith drove home two more runs on a double into right-center field for a 9-0 Stars lead. Perez added an RBI double to left for a 10-0 margin.
Riggs swatted a run-scoring double to right for a fourth-inning 11-0 Oklahoma City lead.
Abeloe had a 3-for-3 showing in the second game. Abeloe scored twice, drove in a run and doubled. Smith went 6-for-6 with a 3-for-3 game in the second contest. Smith scored three times and brought in three runs.
Jackson tacked on a 3-for-4 game with a run scored and an RBI, while Perez, a senior from Ventura, Calif., provided OCU with a 3-for-4 performance, two runs scored and two runs driven in. Gabby Zucchiatti and Whitmore each drove in two runs.

Kylie Dodson fanned four in five innings. Dodson improved to 16-1 after holding Central Christian to one hit. The Lady Tigers mustered only Cassidy Pitts' single with two out in the first. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., set down Central Christian in order the rest of the way.
