OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University salvaged a doubleheader split and a series win over Mid-America Christian with a 7-4 victory Saturday at James Curtis Field.
The Stars also fell 3-2 to Mid-America Christian in the first game of the twin bill. OCU, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, went to 23-4, 7-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the second contest, the Stars exploded for a six-run second inning. Grant Harrison touched off the scoring by nailing a two-run triple into deep right-center field. Elliott Cary knocked in the tying run on a base hit to center. Bryson Lierle hammered a two-run double to left-center to put OCU on top 6-4.
OCU tacked on a run with Quinton Walbergh's sacrifice fly to center in the third.
Harrison, a freshman from Jones, Okla., and Lierle each drove in two runs. Tristan Williams, a freshman from Southlake, Texas, scored twice.
Brandon Goldston, a junior right-hander from Leedey, Okla., collected the win, moving to 4-2 on the year. Goldston struck out four in 5.2 innings of work. Tanner Andrews, a senior righty from Asher, Okla., notched his fourth save.
In the first game, Mid-America took the win using Colin Minor's run-scoring base hit through the left side of the infield in the sixth.
Caleb Davis of OCU pounded an RBI double to left-center field to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth. John Anthon hit an RBI single to give the Stars their first run in the second.
Davis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lierle, a junior from Altus, Okla., was 2-for-3.
Ben Donnell was the winning pitcher. Jake Patterson (4-1) was saddled with the loss.
Oklahoma City meets Southwestern (Kan.) in a 3 p.m. twin bill Tuesday in Winfield, Kan.
