Stars dispatch of Texas Wesleyan 85-56

OCU moves winning streak to 11 consecutive games

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University crushed Texas Wesleyan 85-56 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Mallory Lockhart, a freshman from Keller, Texas, turned in 19 points to top OCU. The Stars, ranked 12th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 24-2, 17-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Lockhart shot 5-for-12 from 3-point range and dished out three assists in her first career start. Abby Selzer, a freshman from Thomas, Okla., provided the Stars with 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
Taylor LaCour, a senior from Georgetown, Texas, collected 13 points and seven rebounds, and Brennyn Seagler, a junior from Gruver, Texas, posted 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists for OCU. Taylor Sylvester, a junior from Chickasha, Okla., chipped in seven points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Oklahoma City notched its 21st consecutive 20-win season with its 93-29 victory over Bacone on Jan. 31 in Muskogee, Okla. OCU aims to move to 25 victories for the 20th time in 21 seasons in a 6 p.m. contest at Panhandle State on Thursday, Feb. 14 in Goodwell, Okla.
The Stars padded their win streak to 11 in a row.
"We've gone on this stretch where we've played six games in two weeks," Oklahoma City coach Bo Overton said. "They're mentally exhausted right now. I'm really proud of how we came out and played. We got the shots to go down early. We shot the ball well early and had another good game defending."
The Stars raced out to a 7-0 lead as Sylvester downed a trey at the 8:18 mark of the first quarter. NaShyla
Hammons started OCU off with a pair of free throws, while LaCour added a lay-in.
Nicole Gleason's 3 cut OCU's edge to 17-16, but Seagler and Lockhart responded with buckets. The Stars shot 63.6 percent from the field in the first half. Texas Wesleyan scuffled to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor and shot 28.6 percent in the first half.
Texas Wesleyan scored first in the second half as Evie Whorley had a fastbreak lay-in. OCU answered with a 10-0 onslaught as LaCour tallied five points. LaCour's free throw gave the Stars a 53-30 advantage with 6:01 to go in the third quarter.
OCU led by as many as 30 points. JoHanna Beathard's layup put OCU in front 83-53 with 1:42 to go.
