Stars crush Bethany, Houston-Victoria

Top-ranked OCU finishes Cowtown Classic 4-0

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University crushed Bethany (Kan.) 10-1 and Houston-Victoria 8-4 on Saturday at Gateway Park in the Cowtown Classic.
OCU, top-ranked in NAIA softball, moved to 4-0 on the year. Jaci Smith sparked the Stars with a three-run home run against Bethany, while Jaden Shores pounded a two-double with four RBIs and threw a complete game vs. Houston-Victoria.
Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, extended OCU's lead to 9-1 over Bethany with her blast with two outs in the third inning. Baileigh Loux added two RBIs, with a sacrifice fly and run-scoring single to center field.
Kennedy Jackson scored on an error for the Stars' first run on a double steal. Morgan McCallum drove in Smith with a sac fly to left, then Loux drove in a run to end the first with OCU up 3-0.
Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., went 1-for-3 and scored two times and drove in one.
Kylie Dodson limited Bethany to one hit and two walks in five innings, while striking out four. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., improved to 2-0 this year.
Against Houston-Victoria, Shelby Riggs broke up a scoreless tie in the second by doubling to center field. Riggs came around to score on Shores' double to center. 
Shores executed a squeeze bunt to bring home Loux in the fourth. Jackson later singled to third, scoring Julianne Abeloe. Jackson then scored on a double steal making it 5-0.
Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., was 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs, while Loux, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., turned in a 2-for-3 performance, scored two runs and had a stolen base.
Shores allowed Houston-Victoria to score four run on nine hits and two walks. She fanned five. Shores moved to 2-0 on the year.
OCU meets Benedictine (Kan.) at 5 p.m. and Oklahoma Wesleyan at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Conway, Ark.
