OCU routs Benedictine, Oklahoma Wesleyan

Top-ranked Stars outscore foes 28-1

CONWAY, Ark. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University trounced Oklahoma Wesleyan 16-0 and Benedictine (Kan.) 12-1 on Saturday at the City of Colleges Park in the Central Baptist February Meltdown.
Baileigh Loux hit two home runs on the day. The Stars, top-ranked in NAIA softball, maintained their unbeaten record, moving to 6-0.
Against Oklahoma Wesleyan, Loux drove in five runs as part of a 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored. Bailey Whitmore added a 4-for-4 game with four RBIs.
OCU jumped out to a 6-0 first-inning advantage. Julianne Abeloe had an RBI single that gave the Stars a 6-0 lead.
The Stars plated five runs during the fourth inning. Loux and Whitmore each had two-run doubles. Abeloe's run-scoring base hit moved OCU's margin to 12-0.
Loux capped the scoring with a two-run blast in the fifth.
Jaden Shores improved to 3-0 by limiting Oklahoma Wesleyan to two hits and a walk in five innings. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., moved to 3-0 on the year.
Against Benedictine, Jaci Smith gave OCU a 1-0 lead in the first by nailing a homer. Loux put the Stars ahead 5-0 by smacking a two-run shot in the third.
Shelby Riggs moved OCU's lead to 11-0 with a two-run double in the fourth.
Loux knocked in three runs, while Morgan McCallum went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Kylie Dodson took the win to go to 3-0 in 2019. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., fanned six and limited Benedictine to one run on three hits and a walk.
Oklahoma City takes on 18th-ranked
Central Methodist (Mo.) at 1 p.m., then Ottawa (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Sunday in Conway, Ark.
