OCU blanks Mount Mercy 8-0

B. Goldston strikes out seven over five innings to improve to 2-0

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University shut down Mount Mercy (Iowa) 8-0 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Brandon Goldston  and Kolin Marley notched a one-hit combined whitewashing of Mount Mercy. Oklahoma City, ranked 8th in the NAIA improves to 6-0.
B. Goldston, a junior right-hander from Leedey, Okla., struck out seven allowing one hit over 5.0 innings of work. B. Goldston (2-0) logged 56 pitches in the contest. Marley, a junior right-hander from Norman, Okla., came on for the final two innings striking out four on 39 pitches.
The Stars continue their hot starts to games scoring five runs in the first inning. Noah Barks led off the bottom of the first with a base hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Barks scored on a Quin Walbergh single up the middle and Walbergh then came around to score on a Tyler Williams triple to deep center field. Caleb Davis drove in Ty. Williams with a double down the left field foul line and then came home on a Peyton Crispin double. Bryson Lierle wrapped up the scoring, by driving in Crispin on a double to left center.
The Stars added two runs to its lead in the second. Walbergh sparked the Stars by reaching on an infield single to the shortstop. Ty. Williams knocked him in on a single to right center after an Elliott Cary single. Cary got home on Crispin's second double of the game.
In the third, the Stars tacked on their final run. Michael Spetter doubled into the left field corner, followed by a Barks single. Walbergh knocked in Spetter with a single to center.
Walbergh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., posted a 3-for-4 day, scored twice and drove in two runs, while Ty. Williams, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple for Oklahoma City. David, a junior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and RBI and a double and Crispin posted a 2-for-2 day driving in two, scored a run and smacked two doubles.
Oklahoma City next plays Southern Nazarene at 3:30 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
