Stars blister Southern Nazarene 11-2

OCU reaches double digits in hits for third time in 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blitzed Southern Nazarene 11-2 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Quinton Walbergh had three hits, while Peyton Crispin and Dylan Taylor each drove in a pair of runs for OCU. The Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA baseball, remained unbeaten this year at 7-0.
Oklahoma City snatched the lead with five runs in the third inning. Crispin nailed an RBI single to right field to break a 1-1 tie with one out. Southern Nazarene committed an error to let another run score, then Taylor and Noah Barks both reached with the bases loaded to put OCU on top 5-1. Garrett Horton came home on a wild pitch for a 6-1 Stars lead.
Crispin crushed a run-scoring double to left field, and Bryson Lierle pounded an RBI single through the middle of the infield for two more OCU runs in the fourth. Walbergh smacked an RBI base hit in the fifth.
Walbergh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., turned in a 3-for-5 day, scored twice, doubled twice and drove in a run. Crispin, a sophomore from Lookeba, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Noah Barks, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., had a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored and an RBI, and Taylor, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., was 1-for-3 for the Stars.
Jake Patterson collected the victory. Patterson, a junior left-hander from Ardmore, Okla., struck out five while allowing two runs on four hits and a walk in 4.2 innings. He improved to 2-0.
Spencer Flatt picked up an out before Chris Goldston finished up on the mound. Goldston, a freshman righty from Leedey, Okla., fanned four in two scoreless innings.
The Stars' first road contest of the season is set for March 1 against Southwestern Christian at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City. OCU originally was set to play Southern Nazarene in an away game in Bethany, Okla., before the game was moved to Sunday due to icy weather over the weekend.

OCU meets Southwestern (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
