Five OCU wrestlers become all-Americans

Douma, Jasperson grab third all-American accolades

MARIETTA, Ga. – Five Oklahoma City University individuals seized all-American acclaim in the Women's College Wrestling Association Championships on Friday at the Cobb Civic Center.
OCU's Margaret Douma and Cassidy Jasperson took their third all-American nods. All five Stars remain alive in the consolation bracket. Ninth-ranked Oklahoma City scored 73.5 points to place ninth after the first day.
Raven Guidry, Destiny Lyng and Nkechinyere Nwankwo of the Stars also collected all-American honors.
Douma, a senior from Napa, Calif., crushed Lacey Henderson of Ottawa (Kan.) 14-4 in 2:55. Douma pinned Hailey Finn of Life (Ga.) in 22 seconds. Douma is the 10th-ranked 143-pounder.
Jasperson, a senior from League City, Texas, notched three technical-fall wins. Jasperson knocked off Taryn Ichimura from Menlo (Calif.) 12-0 in 3:16. Jasperson is the sixth-ranked 116-pounder, and Ichimura is ninth.
Guidry, a sophomore from Lafayette, La., rolled to three technical-fall victories. Guidry upended Mayra Ramirez from Wayland Baptist (Texas) 10-0 in 4:51. Guidry entered the tournament ranked eighth at 109 pounds, while Ramirez is rated fourth.
Lyng, a freshman from La Mesa, Calif., pulled out the win in her first match of the day against Carson Pipher from Colorado Mesa 7-7. Lyng took down Erica Sotelo from Life (Ga.) 11-2. Sotelo stands sixth in the 136-pound ratings.
Nwankwo
, a redshirt freshman from Rosenberg, Texas, prevailed 11-0 over Menlo's Emily Sandoval, the fifth-ranked 191-pounder in the field. Nwankwo holds the sixth spot in the ratings.
Simon Fraser (British Columbia) held the lead in the team standings with 134.5 points, while No. 1-ranked Menlo stood second with 132 points. Simon Fraser finished as national runner-up last year in Oklahoma City.
Fans can watch or follow the action on live results via Flo Wrestling. The last day of competition begins 9 a.m. EST (8 a.m. CST). The championship finals will be 6 p.m. EST (5 p.m. CST) Saturday.
