Stars drop Cumberland 4-3

Peyton Crispin hits his first home run of the season in the win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University baseball team continued its hot streak by beating Cumberland (Tenn.) 4-3 Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
An RBI single up the middle off the bat of Caleb Davis in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference as OCU won its 5th straight game to start the season. The Stars, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, moved to 5-0 on the season.
Oklahoma City jumped ahead 1-0 with run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI double from Tyler Williams.
The Stars added two runs in the bottom of the fourth off a 2-run home run by Peyton Crispin. CU climbed back into the game with three runs in top of the eighth innings to tie the game at 3-3.
The Stars answered in the eighth when Davis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., collected his single back up the middle scoring Quinton Walbergh.
Ty. Williams led the way for OCU offensively, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Crispin also contributed a 1-for-3 night at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.
The contest featured the NAIA's active leaders in coaching wins. Woody Hunt of Cumberland leads with 1,504 victories, while OCU's Denney Crabaugh holds the second spot with 1,458 entering play after Friday.
Grant Harrison, a freshman from Jones, Okla., picked up the win for OCU, pitching 1.0 innings while allowing a hit. Bryce Milligan, a junior out of Blanchard, Okla., struck out seven batters, throwing 7.0 shutout innings and gave up two hits to collect a no decision.
Tyler Milligan came on in the ninth inning and got the final three outs for OCU to earn his first save of the season.
Oklahoma City hits the road in the morning to take on crosstown Southern Nazarene at noon and then returns to Jim Wade Stadium to play Mount Mercy (Iowa) at 3:30.
